A thematic museum, Acropolis Museum houses the findings from a single archaeological site - the Acropolis of Athens. The exhibition sections of the Acropolis Museum are on four levels. The ground, first, and the third floor have permanent and temporary exhibitions while underground level-1 is the excavation site.
The first exhibition of the Acropolis Museum on the ground floor includes the artifacts found from the slopes of the Acropolis. From cookery pots to votive offerings for the worshipping of gods, this exhibition gives you a glimpse into the ancient lifestyle of Athenians.
Learn about the entire history of the Acropolis starting from the 2nd millennium BC to the end of antiquity. You will find objects that show the evolution of the rock from a fortress to a place of worship, how Acropolis looked during the Archaic period and other monuments from the Pericles’ program including the Erechtheion and the temple of Athena Nike.
On the third floor, you will reach the Parthenon Gallery that shows the artifacts that were discovered inside the shrine, the pediment of the sanctuary, and the metopes. It has been placed in a lighted environment to make the visitors feel as if they are walking inside the Temple of Athena Parthenon.
